02 February 2012 – LinkedIn being targetted by scammers
The use of the professional social network LinkedIn has soared during recent years connecting more and more professionals across the globe. The downside of this is that the spammers have now caught on to the popularity and are doing their very best to exploit all who have an interest in the service.
In the LaneSystems office and throughout our clients reports have been received that people are being asked to connect with various professional from around the world via emails that look scarily realistic.
Those who have clicked through to the invitations are reporting varying results with some being real people trying to gather information about them to steal their online identity whilst others have had viruses downloaded.
We ask all who receive an email form LinkedIn to be vigilant and look carefully at the connection and where possible carry out research before clicking accept on the invitation to connect.
